The moon takes 27.3 days to revolve around the earth. It also takes 27.3 days to cut one round of its axis. Because of this, only one part of it is almost always towards the earth that we see.

Moon is the only satellite of our planet Earth. Scientists believe that around 4.5 billion years ago, an Asteroid “Thaiya” hit the Earth. This separates some portion of the earth in space, which today we call the moon. At that time Earth was in the liquid state. The moon completes a revolution of Earth in 27.3 Days. Moon is also responsible for sea tides. The moon is one fourth (1/4) of the weight of the Earth. The gravity of the Earth is on the moon, the moon is also on the earth and because of this, the Earth also makes a little noise.

Why we can not see the Back Side (Dark Side) of the moon?

Many people, especially, those who have an interest in astronomy ask, why only a part of the moon is visible? Simply saying, it is only because of the revolution period of the Moon equals its rotation period. Let us understand this natural phenomenon deeply.

Dark side of Moon

Same as the Moon, Earth also exerts some gravitational force on the moon. The effect of this gravity is such that the time the moon rotates on its axis is the same time it takes one round of the Earth. The moon takes 27.3 days to revolve around the earth. It also takes 27.3 days to cut one round of its axis. Because of this, only one part of it is almost always towards the earth that we see. This phenomenon is called Tidal locking. Example: Hammer Throw

Sea Tides

The gravity of the moon appears on the Earth in exactly the same way as the Earth’s moon. Initially, it used to be a 6-hour day on Earth. But the gravity of the moon is more on that part of the earth which is near the moon and work on that part which is away from the moon. Sea tidal ebb is caused by this. This is due to the gravity of the moon due to gravity on seawater.

Speed of Earth is Slowing Down

Due to the mutual gravitational force, the speed of the earth’s rotation on its axis is slowing down, and it has increased from 6 hours a day to 24 hours today after a million years. But even today, the rotation speed of Earth is affected by 15 microseconds a day. That means the speed of the earth’s rotation on its axis is slowing down.
